Why isn’t Nick Knowles on DIY SOS?
Nick Knowles will not be returning to host DIY SOS this year because he has been temporarily banned from his hosting duties from the BBC show after breaching BBC editorial guidelines after he appeared in a Shreddies advert earlier this year, Bristol Live reports.
The BBC guidelines state that ‘’actors and artists who perform in BBC output should not appear in promotional work, including advertisements, in a way which mimics or replicates their on-air roles for the BBC’’.
However, in the advert, Knowles appeared as a builder, which directly links to what the BBC show he hosted on is about. This is what caused his hosting duties to be relieved for this new special episode.
However, this breach is not permanent as the BBC and Knowles released a joint statement, earlier this year, that claimed he would be making a return in future episodes, specifically in the 2022 series.

However, for the special Children in Need upcoming episode of DIY SOS this year, Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert will be picking up hosting duties instead for the show.
In an interview with The Sun, discussing his thoughts about filling in Knowles’ shoes, Rhod said: "“I asked the producers what they wanted. ‘Do you want me to try and be Nick? Do you want me to try and literally step into his shoes? Or do you want me to be me?’
"They said very clearly, ‘We want you to be you. Don’t try to be somebody or not do what you’re comfortable with’."
What is the new DIY SOS Episode?
