Why is Dermot O'Leary not hosting the NTAs this year? David Walliams hosts 2020 awards

He's taken the rein of the annual event with great success for a number of years now, so it's a bit of a surprise that Dermot O'Leary isn't presenting the NTAs this year.

The X Factor host has been replaced at the helm of the annual event by Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams, who will be master of ceremonies at the big bash at London's O2 Arena on Tuesday night.

Well, while you may have forgotten, it was actually Dermot himself who announced he'd be standing down as NTA presenter in an Instagram post last year.

In it, he said "After 10 years of proudly hosting the National Television Awards, I have decided it’s time to step down as host," he wrote alongside a picture of him holding up one of the iconic golden gongs.

"It's been a tough decision because we have had a ball over the last decade, but 10 years feels about right. I would like to thank Indigo and my ITV family for a brilliant ten years and look forward to proudly passing on the baton in 2020...and a holiday in January!"

Since starting 25 years ago, the annual ceremony has been handing out accolades to all manner of programmes, actors and presenters and this year's National Television Awards will be no different, with a huge crowd ready to gather at London's O2 Arena for the big event.

This year's National Television Award nominees include Ru Paul's Drag Race UK, which is up for a gong for the first time since its launch last year, while Ant & Dec will go for Best Presenter for the 19th consecutive year and are expected to triumph once again.

You can watch all the action live on ITV from 7.30pm.
