Barcelona face Paris Saint-Germain in arguably the most anticipated league phase fixture of this season’s Champions League so far.

However, the meeting between two European giants will NOT take place at the famous Camp Nou stadium.

This is because of fresh delays to the Camp Nou renovations which has meant Barcelona have had to play their home games elsewhere so far this season, including a 6,000-capacity stadium at their own training ground.

The Blaugrana opened their LaLiga title defence with three consecutive away fixtures in the hope that they would be able to return to their historic home by now, but the stadium is still not ready.

Barcelona, recently said in a statement: “The Club continues working to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of Spotify Camp Nou in the coming months.

“In this context, FC Barcelona has already submitted all the documentation related to the first occupancy notification for Phase 1A (Tribune and South Goal), as well as responses to the documentary observations provided by the Barcelona City Council to date.

“The Club is currently working on the new amendments that the Council has shared today.

“FC Barcelona thanks its members and supporters for their understanding and support during such a complex and exciting process, as the Club prepares for the return to the new Spotify Camp Nou.”

As a result, the game against Champions League holders PSG will take place at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, where Barcelona have played their home fixtures for the past two seasons.

Following Wednesday night’s showdown, Barca will have three more league phase matches at home and Champions League regulations state that a club must play all of its matches in the competition at one and the same stadium.

Although as per the BBC, Uefa have agreed that Barcelona will be able to play in the Camp Nou once the administrative permit has been received.
