Why I left Ukip for David Cameron’s Conservatives

I enjoyed Jessica Elgot’s article about guest editors of the Today programme (theguardian.com, 12 December) and was flattered to be considered one of the more notable interviewees last December. However, in referring to me as Ukip communities spokesman (which I then was) she neglected to mention that I had the good sense to leave that party several months ago. In January I joined David Cameron’s Conservatives – the only party capable of delivering the EU referendum that the British people deserved and will now be given. I am proud to say I am now Conservative spokesman on small business in the European parliament.
