Why Hugo Lloris won't feature against Manchester United

Hugo Lloris has returned home from Tottenham's pre-season tour of Asia - and will miss his side's game against Manchester United as a result.

The Frenchman was expected to feature between the sticks when the two sides meet in Shanghai on Thursday, but the World Cup winner has now flown back due to illness.

Lloris came down with tonsillitis on Friday, soon after landing in Singapore, and wasn't involved as his side beat Juventus 3-2 yesterday (Sunday) at the Singapore National Stadium.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are now expected to face Paulo Gazzaniga instead, with the stopper starting Spurs' game against the Serie A champions, with youngster Alfie Whiteman named on the bench for the game.

The Reds will be looking to maintain their unbeaten pre-season run when they take on their old foes on Thursday afternoon, with a Mason Greenwood goal handing United a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in their latest outing.

Games against Kristiansund and AC Milan follow for Solskjaer's side following the game against Spurs, as the Reds continue to prepare for their opening Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday, August 11.
