Emma Raducanu withdraws from Kremlin Cup in Moscow at four days' notice

Tennis sensation Emma Raducany has withdrawn from the Kremlin Cup in Moscow next week.

It follows a disappointing return to the court following her stunning US Open win.

The British star had returned to competitive action at Indian Wells - just her fifth Women's Tennis Association event - but suffered an opening match defeat to Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus.

Now ranked 22nd in the world, Raducanu lost in the first match of the second round against Sasnovich last Saturday, October 9.

It has now been announced the 18-year-old sporting phenomenon has withdrawn from the Russian WTA event, with no official reason yet being given.

The Kremlin Cup is due to begin on Monday, October 18, and run until Sunday, October 24.

Raducanu's next scheduled event is set to be the Transylvania Open, which is set to begin on Monday, October 25.

Raducanu, who completed her A-levels just a few months ago, responded to her Indian Wells defeat maturely.

"I mean, I'm 18 years old. I need to cut myself some slack," she said last week.

"I haven't had much experience with night matches. I've only played one before on [Arthur] Ashe. I'm still very, very new to the tour.

"I think that experience just comes from playing week in, week out.

"I'm kind of glad that what happened today happened so I can learn and take it as a lesson. So going forward I'll have more experienced banked.

"You're going to have highs and you're always going to have some lows where you're disappointed with how you performed.

"Aliaksandra played a great match. You could tell she's more experienced than me. She went out there and executed her game plan better than I did."
