Why Harry Maguire missed Leicester City training today amid Manchester United interest

Harry Maguire missed a Leicester City training session today (Monday) due to sickness amid transfer interest from Manchester United.

It is understood the 26-year-old called in sick this morning, having suffered with illness over the past week or so.

United have made centre-back Maguire a transfer priority, having so far seen their efforts to sign the England centre-back rebuffed by the Foxes.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has reiterated the club's stance on their star defender Maguire, with the King Power Stadium club reluctant to sell. Last week, the Leicester boss revealed Maguire had been struggling with sickness.

"He was sick yesterday, like a number of players who were in the group," Rodgers said after a pre-season win over Scunthrope.

"In the circumstances, it would have been very easy for him not to play, but he wanted to be with the squad."

On the transfer situation, Rodgers has said: "Of course, he has attracted interest with two bids coming in but they nowhere near meet the valuation of the club.

"Harry is relaxed about it - we are."

It is understood a bid of around £80million would be enough to land Maguire, with Leicester holding out for a fee that exceeds the £75million Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago. They want to ensure Maguire will be the world's most expensive defender if he switches to United.

The injury sustained by Eric Bailly during United's pre-season victory over Tottenham Hotspur has only increased United's desire to bring in a centre-back before the transfer deadline on August 8th. United would also like to sign a central midfielder, to add to the signings of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
