Why Harry Kane is not part of the Tottenham squad vs Bayern Munich

Tottenham fans will have noticed that Harry Kane is not part of the squad for this evening's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The England captain has been in prolific form for the Lilywhites so far this season but Jose Mourinho decided to shake things up for their final group game given it's a dead rubber.

Giving the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon, Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth some much-needed minutes at the Allianz Arena, the new head coach left a handful of players back in England.

Kane was one of them to remain in north London, with Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier also staying put.

Tottenham train ahead of Bayern Munich

Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, Ben Davies, Erik Lamela, Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks also didn't make the trip to Germany, although the reason they were not included in the travelling squad was down to injury.

Kane had actually trained with the rest of his Tottenham teammates at Hotspur Way on Monday and his absence in Germany is not down to injury.

As the team have a hectic schedule coming up over the festive period, Mourinho clearly felt that the European game was the perfect time to rest his star man and he outlined this during his press conference after the win over Burnley on Saturday.

Asked if Troy Parrott would start the match against Bayern, he said: "I don't know. I can say that Harry Kane will not play but who is going to play I need to think."

Kane will be back in action for the Lilywhites on Sunday as they make the trip to Wolves.
