Why Hannibal Mejbri is yet to return to Manchester United training

Manchester United granted Hannibal Mejbri extra time off at the start of pre-season following his international involvement with the Tunisian national team.

Hannibal, 18, made his senior United debut in a victory over Wolves on the final day of the last Premier League season and enjoyed further success with his inaugural call-up for Tunisia.

The former Monaco youngster switched his allegiance from France, who he had represented at under-16 and under-17 level, to represent the country of his parents.

Hannibal made his international debut in a victory over DR Congo on June 5, before making further appearances against Algeria and Mali a week after.

As such Hannibal will be a late arrival to pre-season training having missed the first week-and-a-half of action since a return to Carrington at the start of July.

MEN Sport understands the teenage attacking talent will get the chance to showcase his talents to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer and could even earn a promotion to the first-team set-up if he does enough to impress.

United begin their pre-season schedule with a friendly against Derby on Sunday with Solskjaer set to give academy players the chance to impress him at Pride Park.

Hannibal is expected back at Carrington in the next few days with a return to training scheduled either for later this week or at the start of next week.
