Why Greg Taylor could make his Celtic debut against St Mirren as perfect opportunity presents itself

He's the man who has had to bide his time but is Greg Taylor 's Parkhead waiting game about to come to an end?

The Celtic defender has been left on the outside looking in since his £2million deadline day switch from Kilmarnock.

Many observers reckoned the 21-year-old would unseat Boli Bolingoli and make the left-back berth his own but the Rugby Park standout, for the first time in his career, has had to play second fiddle.

In fairness, Bolingoli has improved markedly in recent months after an up-and-down start to life with the Premiership champions. The Belgian has nailed down the position as his own with a clutch of rampaging performances.

But Taylor's big opportunity could be on its way.

Neil Lennon , already emboldened by a strong summer recruitment drive, knows the ex-Killie man has every chance of turning heads when he is finally given his Hoops bow.

And he will be in consideration for his competitive action against St Mirren on Wednesday night.

Jim Goodwin's Buddies will look to provide a stern test but it's the obvious game to give some fringe stars their chance.

This fixture is sandwiched between games against Lazio, a trip to Aberdeen, a Betfred Cup semi-final and a return date with the Italians on their home patch.

Something has got to give and Lennon is steadfast in his belief that Taylor will be ready once his big opportunity presents itself.

He said: “I'm sure when his chance comes he will take it, though.

"Working every day with the players, sports scientists and fitness coaches here will make him better but I understand there's a need for him to play and he'll get that opportunity because there's so many games coming up.

“It's difficult for him because Boli has co me in and been consistent and he has to be patient. We've had a chat with him about it and he knows the situation.

“Greg totally understands that. It's new to him because he played every week at Kilmarnock and I was a big fan of him when I was managing Hibs."

Taylor, if included, isn't unlikely to be the only change with Olivier Ntcham, Nir Bitton, Jonny Hayes and Moritz Bauer all in search of additional minutes.
