Why Gary Neville was happy for the Longstaff brothers after Manchester United's loss to Newcastle

Gary Neville has revealed the one thing that made him happy after watching Manchester United lose 1-0 to Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Red Devils were condemned to their third defeat of the season in just eight matches at St James' Park.

Matty Longstaff's debut goal in the second half ensured all three points for Steve Bruce's side, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskajer's men 12th in the table.

There are just two points separating United from the bottom three, underlining the pressure that the United boss finds himself in during the early months of this season.

It was another drab display from the Red Devils who lacked creativity throughout, a performance captain David de Gea labelled as "unacceptable" after the match.

Neville, who was on co-commentary duty on the game for Sky Sports, revealed on Twitter the one positive he took away from the north East and it wasn't United related. The former right-back expressed his delight at the Longstaff brothers' interview with Sky after the match.

The pair couldn't hide their euphoria after being lined up alongside each other in the centre of midfield for the first time in the Premier League.

It was a buoyant interview from two local lads who were clearly over the moon after beating Manchester United.

Writing on Twitter, Neville said: "The Longstaff brothers made me happy yesterday!

"We see hundreds of interviews every year where players/managers are concentrated, focused and on guard.

"The purity, the joy and the love of football was amazing and it should be shown to every young player. #Dreams"

The mood around St James' Park after the victory was a stark comparison to the feeling around Old Trafford, after yet another lacklustre performance.

United will be left to stew in the bottom half of the Premier League for the next fortnight, before facing arch-rivals Liverpool next time out.
