Why fugitives in tonight's Hunted will start at this semi-abandoned warehouse in Bristol

Channel 4's Hunted is returning tonight and this year fugitives will be starting at a semi-abandoned warehouse in Bristol.

The hit show returns this evening (February 13) after filming in our city last year with assistance from Bristol Film Office.

A mum on the run and a 78-year-old grandfather with a mysterious past are among the ten ordinary citizens being pursued by an elite group of determined ex-military, law enforcement and security forces.

The fugitives have been stripped of all personal belongings this year as they try to survive 25 days on the run to win a share of the £100,000 prize.

For this series, they will start their mission at the A Bond Tobacco Warehouse in Cumberland Road.

Bristol Film Office said it was tasked by show bosses to find semi-abandoned warehouses before the series began.

A spokeswoman said: "Hunted's production team first visited Bristol ahead of series 4 but unfortunately we couldn’t accommodate them, given that they wanted to land a helicopter in the city centre which was a difficult task.

"Their brief when they returned to Bristol for series 5 was to find 'semi abandoned warehouses with outside space, that are within the city'.

"This series there was to be no helicopter drop off, the fugitives would instead be released from an armoured car."

She went on to say that the warehouse was chosen by the show's producers for a number of reasons.

She continued: "It had a good amount of space for the car drop off, and we were able to arrange access to the Metrobus route for the car to arrive.

"With the Chocolate Path currently closed for repairs there wouldn’t be many members of the public in the area.

"The layout of the warehouse allowed us to arrange access for the ideal camera points on the upper floors to film the drop off.

"A Bond Tobacco Warehouse was also perfectly situated to provide a number of potential routes for fugitives to flee from.

"We supplied all the local information about the roads, public transport, bridges and ferries nearby to help the production team get as prepared as possible."

The show was filmed in May last year.

Hunted begins on Channel 4 at 9pm on Thursday, February 13. Applications to become a fugitive for Hunted 2021 close on Sunday February 23 – apply here.
