Why firearms officers descended on a Bristol Street this afternoon

Police have explained why firearms officers descended on a residential street in Bristol this afternoon.

Locals were alerted to a large police presence near Broad Walk, Knowle at around 2pm.

It's since been confirmed that armed officers searched a property following reports a male put a suspected firearm into a bag.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "At approximately 2.05pm today (Sunday, September 26), officers in Redcatch Road in Knowle were approached by a member of the public who reported seeing an unknown male putting a suspected firearm into a bag.

“They remained in the area and observed a male matching the description given entering an address in Broad Walk.

“Firearms officers arrived at the scene and that property was searched with no evidence of any firearm being found.

“Officers remained in the area until about 4.15pm.”

Police say there was no offence or risk to the public.
