Why Felipe Anderson is not in West Ham's squad for crucial Southampton clash

West Ham midfielder Felipe Anderson is not involved in the visitors squad for the crunch game down at St Mary's on Saturday evening to face Southampton.

Anderson is suffering from an illness which is why he has missed out for only the second time this season in the Premier League. The only other game he has missed this season is the second game of the campaign, the draw away at Brighton back in August.

Pellegrini confirmed to Sky Sports: "Felipe had some stomach problems before the training session yesterday and he is not ready for the game today."

Sebastien Haller has replaced Anderson in the starting lineup and we wait and see whether Pellegrini goes 4-4-2 with both Antonio and Haller up front or if Antonio reverts to his preferred position on the wing.

Anderson has been playing in the number ten role in recent weeks so if Pellegrini does stick with his usual 4-2-3-1 formation then Pablo Fornals is likely to play as the number ten with Antonio on the wing and club-record signing Haller through the middle.

If Pellegrini has switched to 4-4-2 then Antonio and Haller will play up top with Fornals on the right wing and Robert Snodgrass on the left.

Anderson's illness meant he couldn't train on Friday at Rush Green and has therefore been left out of the squad.

Jack Wilshere is still not fit enough to get in the squad either having suffered a setback in recovery from his latest injury though Issa Diop is back in the matchday 18 having not been selected for the last three, one of them owing to suspension.

West Ham: Martin; Fredericks, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Noble, Fornals, Snodgrass, Antonio, Haller.
