Why Everton will wear last season's kit for opening match with Crystal Palace

Everton have confirmed they will wear last season's third kit against Crystal Palace this weekend.

The Toffees begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Selhurst Park to face Palace.

Everton had planned to wear their new coral away strip in south London with their blue home kit clashing with Palace's colours.

But match officials have requested a kit change due to concerns the away number would also clash.

Everton are yet to release their third strip, believed to be all black, so will be forced to revert to last season's white kit.

Everton have confirmed that their third strip for the upcoming season will finally be released on August 23 - in time for the trip to Aston Villa.

But fans will have to wait to see any new kit until next weekend's home clash with Watford .

Everton completed the deadline day signing of Alex Iwobi from Arsenal to complete an impressive summer in the transfer market.

The deal for the Nigeria international raised some eyebrows and boss Marco Silva has confirmed he expects goals from the £35m buy.

“He can play wide and behind the striker, he gives us different solutions," Silva said.

“He is a strong player, a fast player, and he can provide good intensity.

“He comes to our club to improve our squad and it is really important for me.”
