Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted Manchester United youngsters Amad, Ethan Galbraith and Shola Shoretire will not just get minutes against Real Sociedad for "charity".
The United manager has made a number of changes for tonight's Europa League second leg versus the Basque side, with his team 4-0 up from the first leg.
Many supporters were frustrated to see Amad, 18, and Shoretire, 17 among the substitutes, with midfielder Galbraith, 19, also on the bench. But Solskjaer said the trio could get on - and not just if United are cruising through.
Speaking to MUTV before the game, he explained his team selections.
"It's a hope you're going to give them time when it's enjoyable but they might be needed," said Solskjaer. "You might need a bright spark out there. The young lads know we're not giving them minutes for charity. They might have to come on and do something to win the game because we want to win the game of football."
The United boss also admitted he needed to rest Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford and wanted to hand minutes to the likes of Eric Bailly and Alex Telles. He also stated his confidence in captain for the night Bruno Fernandes.
He added: "Especially Marcus and Harry, they've played a lot of football. And Alex and Eric need games and they'll definitely be needed throughout the season.
On Fernandes, Solskjaer said: "He's done it (captained United) before and he's one of the vocal ones. We know going into half-time 4-0 up is going to challenge your mentality because you might think we will step it down a notch or two. But Bruno isn't going to allow that."
