Why emergency services were in Cabot Circus this morning

A woman was detained in Cabot Circus today (October 16) following reports of a concern for welfare.

Police vehicles and ambulance staff attended Concorde Street in Bristol city centre shortly before 8am.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said a woman was detained and taken to hospital using powers granted by the Mental Health Act 1983.

Earlier this morning, someone got in touch with Bristol Live to say they heard a warning tannoy message in Cabot Circus car park.

They said: "I was walking through Cabot car park and there was a tannoy message urging people to go to the nearest exit due to a security incident."

A spokesperson for Cabot Circus said this was a fire drill and an unrelated incident.
