Why emergency services were called to HMP Bristol

Emergency services were called to HMP Bristol last night (February 26).

Avon Fire and Rescue and South Western Ambulance Service both attended the prison at 7:15pm.

An image taken at the scene shows a fire engine and ambulance outside the building.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice confirmed there was a fire in a prison cell.

They said: “Staff at HMP Bristol quickly put out a fire in a cell before emergency services arrived. There were no injuries and the prisoner responsible will be disciplined.”

The fire service was contacted by Bristol Live for comment but a spokesperson said they couldn't comment on incidents relating to prisons.
