Emergency services were in Bedminster last night (June 19) after receiving reports of a concern for welfare.
Police and ambulance crews were called to a bridge in the area shortly before 10pm.
On arrival, they found a man stood on the wrong side of the railings.
He soon climbed back over the railing and was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "We were called to reports of a concern for welfare at about 9.45pm last night.
"A man was stood on the wrong side of the railings of the bridge.
"Shortly afterwards he climbed back over the railing and was taken to hospital."
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called at 9.48pm and attended with an operations officer and HART (Hazardous Area Response Team).
"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
Most people who are thinking of taking their own life have shown warning signs beforehand.
These can include becoming depressed, showing sudden changes in behaviour, talking about wanting to die and feelings of hopelessness.
These feelings do improve and can be treated.
