Why emergency services were at Bristol Harbourside today

Firefighters were at Bristol Harbourside today – but only for a training exercise.

Crews were spotted this morning (December 29) by Lloyds Amphitheatre with the rescue service’s large turntable ladder appliance.

And they were seen squirting large jets into the docks, leaving people scratching their heads as to why.

Spectators initially thought the crews were out dealing with an incident.

But firefighters were not attending any emergency.

Instead they were at the harbour training on how to use the rescue service’s turntable ladder appliance.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service (AF&RS) said: “Our crews were training on how to use the turntable ladder appliance which included squirting the water into the harbour.”
