Why Ederson and Nicolas Otamendi are not in Man City squad for Everton game

Ederson is not in the Manchester City squad to face Everton due to illness.

It was expected that the goalkeeper would slot straight back into the side, having missed the 2-0 win over Sheffield United following his red card in the 3-2 defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, the goalkeeper has been struck down with illness so Claudio Bravo starts his second successive match for the Premier League champions.

Nicolas Otamendi is also absent with injury as Pep Guardiola's side look to close the gap on Leicester in second place, meaning Eric Garcia keeps his place in the starting lineup.

Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan, Benjamin Mendy, Joao Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus all come into the XI as the manager makes five changes from the team that beat Sheffield United.

Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero are among the players to drop to the bench.

City line-up: Bravo, Cancelo, Fernandinho (C), E Garcia, Mendy, Rodrigo, Gundogan, Mahrez, Foden, De Bruyne, Jesus

Subs: Carson, Walker, Sterling, Aguero, Angelino, Bernardo, Silva
