Why Douglas Park can lead Rangers out of the coronavirus chaos

Dave King's exit from Rangers has somewhat overshadowed the man replacing him.

Douglas Park will be the new Ibrox chairman on an interim basis, but what can fans expect from him?

Park arrived on the scene after helping the club fight off Mike Ashley in 2015 alongside George Letham and George Taylor, also known as the 'Three Bears'.

He spent five months on the Rangers board, before stepping down, and then making his return as King's right hand man in April 2018.

Park now succeeds King at the helm and former Light Blues striker Billy Dodds has given an insight into how he operates.

Dodds applauds Park stepping forward at such an uncertain time during the coronavirus pandemic and insists there is a real sense of belief that he is capable of steering the club out of this situation.

He told BBC Sportsound: "There’s a real trust and belief behind Douglas Park and I think that’s a huge thing because he has the club’s best interests at heart.

"That doesn’t bail him out but he has clout, he has money.

"He’s been there since the Three Bears, and the power struggle that went on at Rangers.

"He’s always been in the background and he knows how the club operates as he’s been on the board for a long time now.

"You’ve got to applaud him with the way things are - who would touch any business with a barge pole just now?

"So for him to stand up to the plate again - and I emphasise again - and take Rangers on is a real message sent to the fans and they really believe in Douglas Park but he’s got a big job on his hands."
