Why Donny van de Beek is missing for Manchester United vs Arsenal

Donny van de Beek has missed Manchester United's Premier League fixture through injury.

Van de Beek had been named on the bench in United's first five games but was conspicuous by his absence when the matchday squad was confirmed.

United have named two goalkeepers on the bench for the second game running, with new loan signing Martin Dubravka involved for the first time.

Goalies Tom Heaton and Matej Kovar were on the bench for the midweek win over Leicester as full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw were out with "small complaints".

Alejandro Garnacho is also missing for the visit of Arsenal as he played for United Under-21s in their draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

Garnacho started in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool's academy ground and so did Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage, who were involved in United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

With squad players Brandon Williams, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi all injured, United manager Erik ten Hag has opted to name two 'keepers as substitutes rather than promote an academy talent.

A raft of academy players left United on loan on deadline day.
