Why Doncaster Rovers will wear their third kit against Sunderland

Doncaster Rovers will wear a new third kit when Sunderland make the trip to South Yorkshire this afternoon.

Rovers' home kit of red-and-white hoops is an obvious clash with the Black Cats' famous red-and-white stripes.

But instead of Phil Parkinson's side reverting to their all blue away kit, Rovers will don their all-green third kit in aid of charity.

The all-green kit was designed in tribute to the one-off kit worn in the iconic League One title-winning victory at Brentford at the end of the 2012/13 season.

LNER - Doncaster's usual kit sponsors - have given up their space on the front of the shirt to their charity partner Campaign Against Living Miserably, who work to combat male suicide. The matchworn shirts will be auctioned off, with a donation made to the charity as a result of the proceeds.

Sunderland travel to Doncaster in search of a must needed win. The Black Cats slumped to 15th place in the table, seven points adrift of the play-off places, after Thursday's 0-0 draw with basement club Bolton.

Influential fan groups and fanzines issued a joint statement on Friday not only calling for Parkinson to leave but also for owner Stewart Donald to exit the club.

The Black Cats will also travel to Fleetwood Town on New Year's Day before ending the festive period at home to Lincoln City on January 4.
