Why does the sky seem bigger in some parts of the world? I live in New Zealand but travel to the UK regularly, and I can confirm that the sky definitely looks bigger in New Zealand. The effect can even be seen on photographs.
At first I thought it might be because of the wide open spaces here in New Zealand, but recently I was walking on the North Yorkshire Moors through a vast expanse of openness, but still the sky looked smaller.
I thought it might have something to do with light reflecting off vast oceans, but I’m told that the sky also looks bigger in North America, miles away from the nearest ocean. Any ideas?
