Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan?

The holy month of Ramadan is a significant time for Muslims.

It is a month where people give their devotion to god.

Muslims will go without food and drink from sunrise to sunset.

Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with the Muslim declaration of faith, five daily prayers, charity, and performing the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca if physically and financially able.

The first day of fasting for the holy month of Ramadan, which is always determined by the sighting of the new moon, is likely to be Tuesday, April 13.

So why do Muslims fast in Ramadan?

Fasting is prescribed upon every Muslim as long as they are healthy and able to do so.

It is an act of worship, a chance to get closer to God, and a way to become more compassionate to those in need.

Fasting is also seen as a way to learn patience and break bad habits.

It is a month where Muslims are able to focus on praying, giving money to charity and spending time with their loved ones.

Ramadan is one of the biggest religious events in the year, with millions of Muslims around the world taking part year on year.
