Why did the Boston Celtics bench their starters at halftime vs. the Bucks?

Why did the Boston Celtics bench their starters at halftime vs. the Milwaukee Bucks this past Thursday night? When the Celtics found themselves down big to the Bucks at the midpoint of their tilt, head coach Joe Mazzulla decided to pull the plug on his starters and let them rest instead, and spoke to the media postgame about why.

Boston, for the record, had played the Minnesota Timberwolves in a close game that needed overtime to resolve the night before, and was on their fifth game in seven days — quite a load to bear, especially against one of the league’s top teams, and a rested on at that.

Mazzulla made it clear that the decision to pull the starters was his and his alone, with the health and rest of his roster more important than trying for an improbably midseason win.

CLNS Media’s Garden Report took a closer look at the call by Mazzulla in the clip embedded above — check it out.
