Why did Jamie Laing quit Strictly Come Dancing? Devastating injury he suffered during launch

before the BBC show even starts.

The Made In Chelsea star pulled out after suffering from a debilitating injury during the group dance, which was being filmed for Saturday's launch show.

It's the first time in the programme's 17-series history that a celebrity has pulled out before the show even starts - and Mirror Online can confirm Jamie will be replaced by another celebrity from the BBC's reserve list.

Speaking as news of his quitting broke, Jamie said: "I'm absolutely devastated that I’m unable to continue in the competition, I was so excited to hit the dance floor!

"I would like to wish the lovely couples all the very best and hope they enjoy their time on the show to the fullest."

Jamie was strongly advised to pull out by doctors after he damaged a tendon in his right foot by awkwardly landing during the dance.

Medical professionals told him he wouldn't be able to meet the minimum weekly requirement of 12 hours of training.

The 30-year-old reality star was spotted hobbling around London on crutches days after the filming, being accompanied by his girlfriend Sophie Haboo.

He looked glum and downcast as he took a phone call in Notting Hill.

As Jamie was still able to take part in last week's filming, he will appear in the launch show.

The moment he landed may even be shown if it is too late or too awkward to edit it out.

An announcement about him being unable to take part in the rest of the series will then be made at the end of the show.

Executive producer Sarah James said: "We are so sad that Jamie won’t be able to take part in the series, he had already lit up the ballroom during the launch show with his boundless energy and enthusiasm. We all wish him a full and speedy recovery."
