Why deal between DAZN and Matchroom Boxing is good news for Katie Taylor fans

Fans of Katie Taylor can now access her fights for a mere €1.99 per month in Ireland.

The news comes as Taylor’s promoter Matchroom Boxing signed a new five-year deal with DAZN, the leading global sports streaming platform.

The deal will come into effect from July 1 and will mark the end of Matchroom’s partnership with Sky Sports, an agreement that lasted over a decade.

The move is good news for Irish boxing fans, who can now get Taylor fights any time, any place and on any device without the need for a more expensive Sky subscription.

DAZN will become the global port of call for all fights involving Matchroom fighters, and UK and Ireland subscribers can exclusively access a minimum of 16 Matchroom UK fights annually from July 1.

Fans in the UK and Ireland can avail of the introductory offer of €1.99 a month - a special limited time offer launched by DAZN when they entered into both markets late last year. This subscription price will remain in place throughout the three week Matchroom Fight Camp series, with three weeks of nonstop action kicking off from July 31.

DAZN launched in the UK and Ireland in 2020 and the prospect of cheap access to fights involving Taylor is sure to pique Irish fans’ interests.

Taylor herself tweeted in conjunction with the announcement, telling fans that ‘fight news’ is ‘coming soon.’

“Game. Changed. This historic deal builds on the success and momentum of our long-term partnership with Matchroom around the world and solidifies DAZN at the forefront of the global sports streaming era,” said DAZN co-CEO James Rushton.

“Together, we are committed to building the new home of boxing in the UK and Ireland while continuing to grow the global home of boxing in a way that matches today’s evolving viewing habits and brings fans all over the world more of the most premium live-action, more round-the-clock global storytelling, and more broadcast and content innovations - only on DAZN.”

“As we continue Matchroom’s expansion worldwide, this new deal will enable us to further cement DAZN as THE unrivalled global home of boxing. Our aim, alongside DAZN, is to create the biggest and best live fight nights and deliver a viewing experience that is truly game-changing,” said Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.
