Why David de Gea has been sent for extra training sessions by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

David de Gea has reportedly been sent for extra training sessions to work on his footwork by Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to The Sun , Solskjaer sees De Gea as a crucial part of the more attractive brand of football he is aiming to play at Old Trafford.

But he wants the Spaniard to work on playing out from the back and has made sure he puts in extra work to improve his skills with the ball at his feet.

It has been claimed he is training "exclusively with his feet' for at least half-an-hour at a time and he been on the new training regime since pre-season.

He is being repeatedly asked to control balls fired at him under pressure with a number of passing options, clipping balls beyond the 18 yard box and into full-backs.

It is believed the approach is partly influenced by a change in rules allowing two defenders to be inside the penalty area at goal kicks.

The goalkeeper is still yet to pen a new deal at Old Trafford to commit his future to the club.

He has been offered big money to stay at United and become the highest paid goalkeeper in the world.

But European clubs are still interested and will be free to talk to the 28-year-old in January unless he puts pen to paper on a new deal.

It was previously suggested he had agreed a new bumper £350,000-a-week deal to keep him at the club beyond the end of this season.

Real Madrid are long-time admirers of the player and he could be tempted by a big signing on fee if he leaves United on a free having not signed an extension.
