Why Danny Rose and Valentino Lazaro can't play for Newcastle United tonight

Newcastle United head to Oxford United tonight looking to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2006.

However, they must do it without two of their January signings.

Danny Rose and Valentino Lazaro will both be missing from tonight's Magpies squad.

Neither are injured, but they will be absent because they are ineligible due to FA rules.

Teams can only field players in FA Cup replays who were eligible to play in the fist game and, as the duo were signed after the goalless draw at St James' Park on January 25, that rules them out of the Kassam Stadium rematch.

However, should United progress tonight, they will be able to play in the fifth-round clash at West Bromwich Albion later this month.

Rose did not feature in either of Tottenham's third-round games with Middlesbrough, and also missed out on their fourth-round draw at Southampton.

Lazaro, of course, signed on loan from Inter Milan so has no previous FA Cup experience.

Steve Bruce has already revealed he will make at least four changes to his Newcastle side tonight, with Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schar, Sean Longstaff and Matty Longstaff all expected to start the game.
