Why Daniel Sturridge could face ban in Turkey just days after Trabzonspor debut

Daniel Sturridge faces a ban in Turkey just days after making his debut for Trabzonspor.

Former England striker Sturridge joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer this summer after being released by Liverpool .

He came off the bench for his debut in the draw with Genclerbirligi on Sunday.

But the FA could push for the striker to face further punishment for breaking betting rules.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City star was handed a two-week ban and a £75,000 fine in July after being found to have instructed his brother to lay bets on him joining Sevilla.

Sturridge faced 11 charges but nine were dismissed after an independent regulatory commission inquiry, with the FA appealing against the decision.

The ban, which came to an end before the start of the season, was deemed too lenient by the FA.

And if the appeal is successful and a longer playing ban is introduced, the FA could push for that to be introduced in Turkey.

The Turkish authorities would have to accept the request with Sturridge then facing being banned for his new club.

Trabzonspor begin their Europa League campaign in Spain against Getafe on Thursday night with Sturridge hoping to be involved.

The striker is working his way towards full fitness after being used sparingly by Liverpool in the final weeks of last term, and missing a large chunk of pre-season.
