Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has handed Daniel James a second successive Manchester United start after being impressed with his performance against Real Sociedad in midweek.
James registered a goal and an assist in the 4-0 Europa League win in Turin and with injuries continuing to bite for United he's kept his place for the visit of Newcastle United.
It is the first time this season James has started back-to-back games for United and he lines up in attack alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, with Mason Greenwood dropping to the bench.
“I thought his performance (against Real Sociedad) was excellent, he gave us energy in the pressing, gives us runs in behind and keeps the width for us. We felt he deserved another start," Solskjaer told MUTV.
Scott McTominay has joined Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek on the treatment table for United, which means Fred and Nemanja Matic start in midfield behind Bruno Fernandes.
“The two of them have played together before. Paul, Donny and Scott are all injured so I’m glad I've got Fred and Nemanja," said Solskjaer.
The absences extend to the coaching staff this week, with some first-team staff forced to self-isolate, so Solskjaer will be joined by Mark Dempsey and Nicky Butt in the dugout against Newcastle.
"I’ve worked with Mark for so long and everyone knows about Nicky, I’ve got good advice," the United boss said.
