Why Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia has blocked Tiemoue Bakayoko's Monaco return

Chelsea transfer chief Marina Granovskaia has reportedly blocked Tiemoue Bakayoko's proposed move to Monaco over concerns regarding his future value.

The midfielder is out of favour under Frank Lampard and the club are keen to get him off the books.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a loan move back to Monaco, the club he left after an impressive spell to join the Blues for £40million just two years ago.

But according to RMC Sport , Granovskaia fears Monaco is not a big enough club to showcase his value, and she has blocked the deal as they look to eventually recoup the majority of the money they paid for the 25-year-old.

Bakayoko spent last season on loan at AC Milan but fell out with coach Gennaro Gattuso and did not do enough to secure a return.

His Chelsea career appears to be over after Lampard took a look at him during pre-season and decided he does not have a future at Stamford Bridge.

It is claimed Bakayoko's entourage are angry a move back to Monaco was blocked, with the club now potentially set to turn their attentions to Southampton star Mario Lemina instead.

The Blues are holding out for a more high-profile side to make a move, but if no interest materialises then a move to Monaco could eventually be resurrected and given the green light.

Bakayoko played 63 Ligue 1 games for Monaco between 2014 and 2017 after his £7million move from Rennes, culminating in his switch to the Premier League.

But he struggled to make an impact after penning a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, and whilst his loan spell at AC Milan was solid, featuring 31 Serie A appearances, his future is still up in the air.
