Why Chargers fans should be excited about LB Emeke Egbule

Emeke Egbule was the second linebacker that the Chargers drafted in this year’s draft. Drue Tranquill was taken earlier with the team’s fourth round selection.

Los Angeles lost Kyle Emanuel to retirement earlier this offseason after becoming an unrestricted free agent. Emanuel’s decision to hang up his cleats left a hole behind Uchenna Nwosu at the SAM linebacker, which is why L.A. decided to use their pick on Egbule.

At 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds, Egbule has a great blend of size, length and athletic ability. He lined up off the ball, showcasing fluid hips in coverage and he played on the line of scrimmage as a pass rusher, displaying a quick first step. He was quite the versatile skill set while playing for the University of Houston.

In 2018, Egbule amassed 69 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, five passes defended, four fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles.
