Celtic may have to raise their Scottish Premiership flag on a Monday evening, according to a report.

Next season is set to kick off on the weekend of August 1 and 2 and flag day at Parkhead would have been expected to take place on one of those days.

However, Celtic's first game of 2026/27 may have to be played on the evening of Monday 3rd due to Commonwealth Games’ track cylcing events at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome, according to the Scottish Sun.

There are also two sold-out Calvin Harris shows at Hampden on the Saturday and the Sunday, meaning police resources will be stretched.

SPFL chiefs have held talks with the authorities and stakeholders over the dilemma.

The only other alternative to the Monday evening would be for Celtic to start the season away from home, a break from SPFL tradition for the champions to do so.

The SPFL are due to confirm fixtures for the season ahead tomorrow at noon.
