As the New England Patriots get set to take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, quarterback Cam Newton is beginning to understand what makes Julian Edelman so special. It’s safe to say that the quarterback is excited about playing with him.
Edelman looks to be a key weapon for a New England Patriots offense that lacks depth and experience at wide receiver. Newton and Edelman worked together this offseason, as the quarterback did his part to get acquainted with his new teammates. Now, it seems like Newton has become extremely fond of his newest slot receiver.
In an interview with the Greg Hill Show on WEEI, Newton spoke about what makes Edelman so special.
“I see guys like Julian, I can say I’ve never had a receiver like that, outside of like Steve Smith; a person who was a veteran and understood what it took. Everybody else was pretty much a young guy who you had to mold and shape.”
“I love life. I love being apart of something that can potentially be astronomical.”
It will be interesting to see if the chemistry that Newton has with Edelman will lead to positive results on the field. In a year unlike any other for New England, an instant connection would be a welcome development.
