Why Burnley transfer might not have knock-on effect Nottingham Forest fans hope for

Nottingham Forest fans have taken a keen interest in potential transfer movement at one of their Championship rivals - amid hopes it might have a knock-on effect at the City Ground.

Burnley are reportedly readying a new £12m bid for Stoke City defender Nathan Collins, having previously identified him as a target in January.

According to The Sun, the Clarets are hopeful of getting a deal done, beating off the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, who have also been linked.

Reds supporters have pounced on that development, hoping it could end Burnley’s long-standing interest in Joe Worrall.

It seems unlikely that will be the case, however, as it has been suggested two centre-back signings are required at Turf Moor this summer.

Boss Sean Dyche has been a fan of Worrall’s for some time, and the expectation is the club will try their luck to land him again, having been turned down 12 months ago

There is other interest in the Nigel Doughty Academy product, though, with West Ham United, Norwich City and Crystal Palace being joined by Brentford in keeping tabs on him.

Worrall is under contract at the City Ground until 2024 and it is thought it would take a bid of between £10-12m to try to prise him away.

LancsLive report Burnley also have Liverpool’s Nat Phillips and Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry on their list of potential targets.

It is said centre-back is an area the Clarets “are prioritising early in the window” and “two additions are required”.

They add: “And any centre-back addition comes regardless of James Tarkowski's future, with the 28-year-old subjected to mounting interest from Premier League rivals with just one year left on his current Clarets deal.”

It is thought any attempt by Burnley to bag Worrall would be unlikely to happen until Dyche’s future is resolved, as he enters the final year of his contract.

Dyche has been linked with a number of other jobs, but it has been claimed the club are confident he will put pen to paper on an extension.
