Why British holidaymakers are cruising more than ever

  • British and Irish holidaymakers took a record 2.54 million ocean cruises last year, surpassing the previous highest total.
  • The Mediterranean remains the most popular cruise destination, chosen by 34.5 per cent of passengers, followed by Northern Europe and the Caribbean.
  • The typical cruise guest age was 54.6, but a seven per cent increase in children under 12 indicates a growing trend in family cruise holidays.
  • The average cruise length was 9.6 days, with seven-night departures remaining the most popular sailing duration, accounting for 44 per cent of trips.
  • Industry leaders attribute the appeal to new vessels, diverse entertainment, food, immersive shore opportunities, and the convenience and value of no-fly cruises from the UK.
