Why Bristol students have gathered on College Green

Bristol students have gathered on College Green yet again this afternoon (October 25) to raise awareness of the climate emergency.

School pupils have been protesting every month since February to call on the Government to tackle the climate crisis .

Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate has previously rallied against a planning application for the expansion of Bristol Airport and recently held its "largest ever" climate strike in September.

During the last event, the group called on unionists, nurses and teachers to join them in their protest against the Government.

However, the group has decided to stage a sit-in this month instead of the usual school strike.

A statement on the group's Twitter account reads: "Rather than doing a school strike on the 25th, we will sit outside the council building in true Greta style!

"PSA: This is NOT A MARCH!! We wanted to do a low-key event, go back to basics!"

Similar events have been held by the group across the country today, including a die-in outside Scottish Parliament and a climate strike in Liverpool.
