Why Bristol Airport was evacuated this morning

Bristol Airport's departure lounge was evacuated this morning (August 2) after a fire alarm was activated.

Crowds of passengers were forced to leave an area within the lounge as a precaution while an investigation was carried out.

After the investigation concluded, both passengers and staff were allowed to return.

A spokesperson for the airport apologised after a passenger complained the security queue at the airport was "the length of the building"

She then told Bristol Live: "Bristol Airport experienced a fire alarm activation this morning which resulted in the brief evacuation of passengers from an area within the Departure Lounge as a precaution.

"After a full investigation of the area, all passengers and staff returned to the Departure Lounge.

"All flights remained operating as normal.

"We apologise for any inconvenience experienced by passengers during this time and we thank passengers for their patience during this time. "
