This past week has been one of the strangest I've ever had following Manchester United and the cherry on top of the cake to confirm its strangeness came on Friday morning.
A report from ESPN stated that United were considering Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, as a potential replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, should he be relieved of his duties.
To be honest, it's a surprise to me that the Norwegian is still in a job. That's not because I'm calling for him to be sacked because I won't do that, but I just think with all the reports of player discontent, coupled with the poor run of results and lack of identity, his position felt untenable.
In my honest opinion, if United do get rid of Solskjaer, they need to remain patient. Why? Because I don't think they can afford to repeat a scenario where things can go wrong very quickly.
The current options out there are Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane and if we're going off reports, Conte is the one who's put his name in contention for the job.
I know full well how many of you want Conte, but it feels like there is a divide in the United fanbase with his appointment. Some supporters are very much in favour of him coming to Old Trafford, whilst others want the complete opposite. It's a weird situation.
It's why I think that if Solskjaer is sacked, United should bring in an interim and wait until there are more managerial options next summer. If there was a scenario where Conte would come in until the end of the season, I would love that because it would give him a chance to prove himself as well. Do I think that will happen? Absolutely not.
Despite the split around Antonio Conte, it felt there was a mutual agreement with supporters that Brendan Rodgers is not the man to take Manchester United forward.
Now, I don't know what you guys felt when you saw the report about Rodgers, but I just thought it was wrong in so many ways.

Firstly, Rodgers is an ex-Liverpool manager. I know Sir Matt Busby was poached off the red half of Merseyside, but the situation is so different. He came to Manchester United just after the Second World War when the club needed so much renovation.
What else doesn't appeal to me about Rodgers? Well, he won the FA Cup with Leicester which, to his credit, was a monumental achievement for them. You could tell all his players wanted to win it for him and he's created a real spirit at that club. But I cannot escape the fact that he's bottled it in key moments of previous seasons.
Look at what happened to Liverpool in 2014. They were eight points clear at the top at one stage and on course to seal their first-ever Premier League title. What happened? Well, a slip from Steven Gerrard basically gave the title to Manchester City.
Then there are his moments with Leicester. Do you remember when they were second at one stage in the 2019/20 season? They were also in contention last season of finishing in the top four. The result? Both times, they fell out and finished fifth.
If Rodgers came to United, I fear the club's drought of trophies will stretch longer than it already is. The Northern Irishman needs to prove he can compete for the highest of accolades and hasn't really had much experience in the Champions League. This is why he falls short of the likes of Antonio Conte or Erik ten Hag.
Should United bring in Rodgers, I think some serious questions would need to be raised by supporters because it would be such an 'out-of-touch' appointment. Changes would need to be made higher up and that's no disrespect to Rodgers, but he just isn't the right candidate for the job.
They have to ensure the next appointment is right.
