Why Brandon Williams can’t play vs Manchester United for Norwich

One Manchester United loanee will not be in action tomorrow and that is Brandon Williams due to the conditions of his temporary stint.

The 21-year-old full-back made his debut for Norwich City in their 6-0 demolition of Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup in September and he has gone on to enjoy his role in the first-team with the Canaries.

Daniel Farke, who brought Williams to Norfolk, was sacked with the club in the bottom three and was replaced by Dean Smith at Carrow Road.

Manchester United will be the latest side visiting last season's Championship winners as they look to leapfrog Spurs into fifth following the postponement of their trip to face Brighton.

But for Williams, he will be absent from Smith's matchday squad as he is ineligible to face the Reds due to them being his parent club.

In the Premier League handbook, on loan transfers, sections V.1 and V.2 state: "A temporary transfer to a Club may not take place in the Transfer Window in which the Transferor Club acquired the Player’s registration.

"During the period of the Temporary Transfer of his contract registration a player shall not play against the Transferor (parent) Club."

It will be a bittersweet moment for the Reds loanee as he will sit out against his boyhood club after he was singled out as one of the standout players against Tottenham, despite suffering defeat.

Dean Henderson also suffered a similar fate during his loan spell at Sheffield United.
