Why bomb squad was called to Carlton

Police have responded after a report that an 'unexploded shell' had been discovered in a garden shed.

Officers were called to a home in Chatsworth Avenue in Carlton around 10.35am on Monday morning (October 26).

A team of bomb disposal experts also attended and got rid of the shell which had been empty.

Witnesses say the teams were there for around an hour, but police confirm no one had to be evacuated.

It comes after controlled explosions have been carried out recently in Worksop.

In previous weeks, cordons have gone up when suspected artillery shells were found near allotments in Clifton as well as in Newark a few days earlier.

A spokesman from Nottinghamshire Police said: “Police were called to an address in Chatsworth Avenue, Carlton, shortly after 10.35am this morning when a member of the public reported finding an unexploded shell in a garden shed.

“Specialist bomb disposal experts visited the scene and disposed of the shell, which had been found to be empty.

“No evacuations were required.”
