Why Bolton Wanderers accepted Regan Riley transfer to Norwich City explained

Bolton boss Ian Evatt explained that the offer Norwich City made for Regan Riley was too good for Wanderers to turn down.

The 18-year-old moved to Carrow Road on transfer deadline day from the University of Bolton Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

He has signed a three-and-a-half year contract, with the option of an extra 12 months at the Championship club

Riley has made two senior appearances for the Trotters in his time with the club, making his debut last season against Tranmere Rovers.

He followed it up with an appearance off the bench in the EFL Trophy earlier this season against Shrewsbury Town.

Wanderers manager Evatt has had his say on the move for the youngster.

The Bolton boss believes Riley is a 'very talented' player but that Wanderers made the call to sell the teenager after receiving a 'very good deal' from the Canaries which he believes was 'too good to turn down'.

And the transfer was done with an eye on making Wanderers sustainable moving forwards in mind.

“It’s a great opportunity for him. Regan is a very talented young player with a fantastic attitude but sometimes we have to make a call," said Evatt.

"Norwich, in my opinion, offered us a very good deal for a player who has potential but it by no means the finished article.

“To make this club sustainable – and that’s what we all want, we don’t want to be in the mess we have been in before – then we have to look at deals like that.

“In my opinion it was too good to turn down."
