Why Blackburn Rovers and Ben Brereton are in good form ahead of facing Nottingham Forest

When Ben Brereton lines up against his former Nottingham Forest teammates at the weekend, they will be facing a player in fine form.

The 21-year-old switched to Ewood Park last summer in a £7m deal and after a sticky start to his Rovers career, he has started to shine under Tony Mowbray.

He has been a key man in the Rovers attack this season and they are sitting in 6th place and unbeaten in their last three games.

Brereton spoke out ahead of the game and explained the reasons for the good run of form.

He told the Rovers website: "When you win a game of football it’s the best feeling ever, and that was exactly how it felt after the 5-0 win over Wycombe and the 4-0 victory at Derby.

“We’ve been very good as a whole team so far this season, and it’s really fun to play in the team going forward because we have some brilliant players in the squad.

“Arma [Armstrong]’s goalscoring ability has been there for all to see again and I’m really excited by what’s to come for us as a club this season."

“We’ve started the season well and we’ve worked hard in the build up to this next game against Nottingham Forest.

“We have a lot of confidence and have worked on a lot of things in the week so we can settle down and go again.

“The lads have stuck together, it’s been a good start and we’re all looking forward to going again."

Former Forest Academy graduate Brereton explained his reasons for leaving Forest when he signed for Rovers.

He told the Blackburn matchday programme: “It’s a good club and I will always remember it as the place where I learnt my trade, and it will always be a club close to me.

“But I took this opportunity and I think it was the right one to make.”

He added: “I’ve got to say a big thank you to the club because they gave me that platform to work from and they gave me my start in my career, which I’m grateful for.

“But it was time for me to move on and I’m at a new club now and a new beginning.”
