Why Bernardo Silva is missing for Man City's clash vs Chelsea

Chelsea visit the Etihad for the evening kick-off on Saturday and Manchester City are set to be without one of their star men, Bernardo Silva.

Since Silva’s arrival from Monaco in 2017 for £43million, the Portuguese has made it clear he has the obvious credentials to sparkle among the world’s best.

The versatile attacker has once again been in electric form this campaign, scoring five goals in 11 Premier League appearances and Silva already looks set to smash his record goal return of seven in one season - coming in the 2018/19 campaign.

However, as City are set to host Chelsea this weekend, Silva will be forced to watch on from the stands.

Silva was recently handed a one match ban and a £50,000 fine from the FA for a controversial tweet to teammate Benjamin Mendy, after posting an image of a young Mendy alongside the mascot of Spanish confectionery brand Conguitos.

An FA statement said: “Bernardo Silva has been suspended for one first team competitive fixture, fined £50,000 and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3.”

City accepted the ban and decided against appealing the decision and now Silva will next be eligible for when City host Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday at the Etihad.

While Pep Guardiola will be without Silva on Saturday, City will be boosted by the timely return of shot stopper Ederson who has recently recovered from a 'muscular problem’.
