Why Ben Chilwell vented fury to Graham Potter as Chelsea set to miss Thiago Silva's genius

It was another defeat for Chelsea against Spurs as the Blues conceded a Premier League goal for the first time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Harry Kane added to Oliver Skipp's opening strike to hand Antonio Conte's side victory in the London derby and increase the gap between the teams to 14 points.

Graham Potter cut a frustrated figure following the game and the uncertain outcome of Thiago Silva's injury will be a disappointing addition to the result. However, defeat to Tottenham ensures Chelsea's form is at the forefront of everyone's minds.

After recording 11 points in Graham Potter's opening five games, the Blues have since slumped to only earning 10 points from the following 13 matches. Nevertheless football.london takes a look at the moments you may have missed below:

Mudryk practise

Back when the Blues still had hopes of three points and the anticipation of a London derby was at fever-pitch, Chelsea's starting XI headed back to the changing rooms after they had completed their warm-up. It's entirely normal to see the Blues' substitutes remain out on the pitch with a ball each.

As their time on the field came to an end, they ended it with shots on goal with third goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom guarding the net. While most just attempt to rain shots on the goal, Mykhailo Mudryk appeared to take this seriously as a drill. The Ukraine international would attempt a low rasping shot towards the near pots with curl. It didn't come off first time but Mudryk and Bergstrom remained even as other teammates departed.

It perhaps offered a good insight to Mudryk's work-rate. Unfortunately, though, Chelsea's away fans did not get to see a repeat of the strike following the winger's second half introduction.

Thiago Silva's genius

Even in the moment of his own misfortune, Thiago Silva was still in control. The 38-year-old veteran was clearly in pain having landed awkwardly under the weight of Harry Kane before gingerly beginning to make his way around the pitch.

He attempted to jog around the byline before getting the indication from referee Stuart Attwell to re-enter the pitch, reassessing his knee on his way back to his position. It did not take the Brazilian legend long to gesture to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, who were warming up, to speed up their process, rather than letting the bench know directly.

Silva continued on the pitch, filling gaps and even seeming to head into midfield while Enzo Fernandez filled in for him. As Spurs looked to build up some steam and Fofana readied himself on the sideline, Silva placed himself on the floor and simply opened out his arms towards Tottenham's players putting their anger in his direction. He clearly couldn't continue, though the timing was smart form Silva to both disrupt and more easily ready his own substitution.

The former AC Milan and PSG star was able to leave the pitch under his own volition, embracing Reece James as he handed his teammate the captain's armband. But the Blues will be concerned about Silva's availability for Leeds, Borussia Dortmund and beyond.

Ben Chilwell's anger

In a moment that perhaps summed up too much of Chelsea's play, Ben Chilwell was left angry with himself and his teammates. The defender took the ball up the left side of the pitch as the Blues looked to find a way back into the came and attempt a smart pass down the line ahead of him.

However, the 26-year-old simply scooped the ball towards no Chelsea player and straight out of play. Chilwell quickly turned to complain to his teammates with some enthusiastic gesturing, clearly very frustrated with the options he had received away from his flank. Perhaps the culmination of the same scenario playing out as so much of Chelsea's play was focused down the left. Chilwell impressed his anger with his teammates towards Potter, to respectfully let him know there was an issue.

A pause in play allowed Chelsea's players to gather and to be briefed by Potter, as the Chelsea coach had conversations with the likes of Chilwell and James to try and extract something else from the Blues' forward players. Though for Chilwell, his struggles persisted in the second period following a strong first half.

Chilwell was up for the battle and attempted to ensure Spurs knew it. As the match entered its final 10 minutes, the defender ended up in a very brief tussle with Cristian Romero. The Chelsea star bundled into the opposition ace and put his arms around the Argentina international in a hug of sorts.

The Spurs star did not take too kindly and pushed Chilwell away before a brief stare down ensued and the referee quickly arrived. Chilwell didn't a backward step until Attwell's arrival and then returned to his position and exchanged a distant thumbs up with Romero.
