Why Barcelona could pull-out of Matthijs de Ligt transfer - and gift free pass to Man Utd

Barcelona could be set to pull out of negotiations for Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt - due to super agent Mino Raiola.

Barca had appeared to be the most likely destination for centre back de Ligt, who is highly likely to leave the Dutch giants this summer.

But - with the Italian-born Dutchman asking for £12million to broker the deal.

Raiola is also expected to aggressively demand £350,000-a-week for de Ligt to go alongside his fixer's fee, which Barca are not keen on splashing out on.

The refusal to deal with Raiola on his terms stems from problems Barca had when they signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

To muddy the waters further, Raiola is currently banned from dealing with any transfers for the next three months.

Reasons for the ban are unknown, but reports claim that it could be due to Gianluca Scamacca's move from Roma to PSV, which took place in 2015.

The agent vs club spat could play into Manchester United's hands - as they aim to use the argument to their advantage in the hunt for de Ligt.

The Red Devils have vowed to back new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market this summer as they attempt to rebuild after a difficult campaign.

Raiola, who is also Paul Pogba's agent, is trying to push his client towards Old Trafford - but de Ligt is only interested in Champions League football, which United can't provide for him.

It is understood that former United defender Daley Blind has also urged him to move to the Reds, although de Ligt is said to be keen to meet up with Frankie de Jong at the Nou Camp.

Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the situation.
