Why Barcelona are convinced they will complete Neymar transfer next year

Barcelona remain confident they will sign Brazilian star Neymar in the near future despite being unable to do so during the summer transfer window.

Even though talks having been ongoing with Paris Saint-Germain over the proposed move for weeks, the two clubs couldn't make a breakthrough in negotiations, and Neymar will stay in Paris against his will until at least January.

According to Spanish publication SPORT , however, the Catalan club still believe they will be able to complete the long drawn-out transfer in 2020.

They think Neymar is still only interested in a return to the Nou Camp in spite of reported interest from Real Madrid , and that the club themselves are also determined to complete what would be an extraordinary return for the 27-year-old.

Barcelona tried their best to prise the winger away, offering up to three players in Ivan Rakitic, Jean-Clair Todibo and Ousmane Dembele plus a rumoured £182million, but in the end it just wasn't enough and Neymar will now have to somehow win back over the PSG fans who booed him and sang abusive songs on the first day of the Ligue 1 season.

There was some positive news for PSG on deadline day, however, as they managed to complete the signing of 32-year-old goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Real Madrid, with Alphonse Areola going the other way on loan.

It remains to be seen whether Neymar is given his first appearance of the season after the international break when PSG host Strasbourg on 14 September, but it will certainly be interesting to see how he deals with the disappointment of his dream move not going through.

In the past, however, Barcelona have had similar situations with both Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho, where they were made to wait for both signings but eventually got their men, and you would not bet against Neymar joining in either January or summer next year.
